MILHIS: Legal History Without Borders

MILHIS is the site of the legal historians at the University of Milan. Conceived as an open platform, it highlights academic initiatives, events and news, while showcasing the original research developed within our group. It adopts a comparative and transnational perspective that connects ideas and legal institutions across time, turning legal history into a shared and accessible heritage for different generations of scholars and students.

The site also provides a detailed insight into the work that occurs behind the scenes, including ongoing projects, evolving ideas and the daily research experiences of those who collaborate with the group.

MILHIS was created with the aim of communicating legal history in an open, clear, and engaging way. We believe that sharing methods, perspectives and reflections is an essential part of scholarly work and, through accessible communication, we hope to foster conversations that bring different voices and approaches into dialogue.
