Professor
I am an Associate Professor of Medieval and Modern Legal History at the University of Milan, where I teach legal history and the history of human rights. My research focuses on how law has historically adapted to social, economic, and cultural change—from the late Middle Ages to the modern era. I explore topics ranging from administrative systems, contracts, and labor to gender, human rights, and migration, analyzing the strategies through which law has addressed inequalities and social challenges.
I have authored several monographs, including Justice, Freedom, Rights: An Introduction to the History of Human Rights (2024), and published widely in both Italian and international journals. My recent work examines issues such as women’s labor in Italy between the Liberal era and Fascism, and the evolving legal status of trade unions in the interwar period.
I am an active contributor to the academic community, participating as a speaker, chair, and moderator at conferences in Italy and abroad. I am involved in doctoral programs on law, rights, and sustainability, where I have taught courses on inequality, law, and society, and directed research projects on migration and human rights. I also collaborate with initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion, such as the Human Hall project at the University of Milan.
A member of several professional societies, including the Italian Society for Legal History (SISD) and the European Society for Comparative Legal History (ESCLH), I combine historical scholarship with a commitment to understanding the law’s role in shaping—and responding to—society.

New Publication
“Soggetti, diritto e disuguaglianze tra passato e presente. Un’analisi interdisciplinare” (aprile–maggio 2025)
The volume brings together the proceedings of the doctoral course “Soggetti, diritto e disuguaglianze tra passato e presente. Un’analisi interdisciplinare” (aprile–maggio 2025), devoted to examining the historical, socio-cultural factors and the strategies—legal and otherwise—through which differentiation and inequality among individuals, categories, and groups are constructed and maintained.
Addressed to students, doctoral candidates, faculty members, and scholars, the volume adopts an innovative and multi-perspective approach to a wide range of issues spanning legal history and positive law (including legal philosophy, labour law, and criminal procedure), while also opening up to contributions from psychology and psychiatry.
