Angela Santangelo, PhD

I am Full Professor of Medieval and Modern Legal History at the University of Milan, where I also serve as Director of the Department of Private Law and Legal History. My research focuses on the history of justice and legal institutions from the Middle Ages to the early modern period, with particular attention to criminal procedure, inquisitorial models, and the relationship between law, society, the Church, and political power.

I teach courses in Medieval and Modern Legal History and advanced seminars on the inquisitorial process. I have authored monographs and edited volumes on ecclesiastical justice, Church–community relations, and the development of judicial practices in medieval and early modern Italy, as well as numerous articles in leading journals. My work combines archival research, doctrinal analysis, and the study of legal culture, and I regularly participate in national and international conferences and collaborative research projects.
